The women who have led the way from their first exploratory meeting in November 2002 are listed below. They are the network’s founding members responsible for its foundation—the Core Principles, the Mission, Goals and Objectives—and for its vision..

They banded together---dubbing themselves "The Executive Committee---to do the research, create a data base, and write the basic documents above. They then fanned across Kentucky to carry out dozens of interviews with prominent Democrats and other Kentucky leaders past and current that helped them set priorities for The Network. After working as a team for eight months, they then sent letter inviting others across the state to join the new organization.

Once membership was opened, they functioned as a Board with formal meetings, minutes, treasurer’s reports and committees and are now included on the statewide Board.
